Plans and Pricing

MetLife offers competitive pricing in comparison to other pet insurance providers, and its rates are determined based on various factors, such as the type, breed, age, and location of the pet. In August 2022, I procured quotes for a two-year-old Labrador and an eight-year-old mixed-breed cat residing in Colorado Springs. The quotes included an annual limit of $5,000, 80% reimbursement, and a $250 annual deductible.

For the Labrador, the standard coverage was priced at $38.20 per month, while the inclusion of wellness coverage brought the monthly cost up to $65.59. As for the cat, the standard plan came in at $36.58 per month, with an additional $12.48 for wellness coverage.

MetLife Pet Insurance offers family packages that cover multiple pets, allowing pet owners to save money. By insuring both my dog and cat together, I could obtain coverage at a discounted rate of $60.24 for the standard plan, or $100.11 for the plan including wellness coverage, resulting in a savings of $14.51 per month.

Furthermore, MetLife offers a range of other discounts to its policyholders. For instance, animal care workers and military personnel are eligible for a 10% discount on their premiums. Additionally, customers who purchase their policies online can benefit from a $1 monthly discount.

Waiting Periods

The policy provides immediate coverage for accidents without any waiting period from midnight on the date of inception. Furthermore, the selected wellness coverage also takes effect immediately. However, for all other coverage, such as illnesses, a waiting period of fourteen days is applicable.

Coverage Limits

MetLife Pet Insurance is supported by two underwriters, namely Independence American Insurance Company (IAIC) and Metropolitan General Insurance Company (MetGen). The underwriting company for your pet insurance policy will be determined by your state of residence.

Coverage limits for your policy may vary from $500 to unlimited, contingent upon your geographical location, type of pet, and the underwriting company, either IAIC or MetGen.

Reimbursements and Deductibles

The reimbursement rates and deductibles for your policy are subject to variation depending on your geographical location, pet details, and the underwriting company, either IAIC or MetGen.

The policy offers a choice of reimbursement options, which include 70%, 80%, 90%, and 100%. The deductible amounts range from $50 to $500.
